Herbal Body Wraps Continued

Note:  I purchase the ingredients I need from my local health food store.  If you don't have a natural health store close to you, you can find and order these items online by doing a google search.

Basic Slimming Clay Wrap

1 cup bentonite or green clay
1/4 cup sea salt
2 tbs. olive oil
2 cups spring water

Make sea water by dissolving your sea salt in the 2 cups of spring (or filtered) water.  Add clay to make a paste. Add olive oil. Additional water may be added to get the paste at the proper consistency for spreading on your skin.

Turn this into an herbal clay wrap by adding any essential oils you may already have by the drop to give your mix a pleasant fragrance.  Suggested essential oils to add to wrap recipes are tangerine, ylang ylang, lavender, petite grain, and rosewood to aid relaxation and reduce stress.

Apply the clay and wrap in sections as outlined above.  This is best suited for the relaxing wrap.

Basic Mineral Wrap for the Moving Wrap

1 cup epsom salts
1 cup sea salt
1 cup baking soda
optional --few drops of essential oil such as lavender
optional --2 TBS oil

Combine the above ingredients and dissolve into basin of very warm water.  Soak your wrapping strips in this solution.  Use a wash cloth and wet your skin with solution then begin wrapping with the damp squeezed out strips.
Cover with a robe or sweat suit and walk about.  Keep moving for at least 30 minutes.  Shower afterwards with lukewarm water.

As with the clay wrap above, you can create an herbal mineral wrap by adding essential oils you may have on hand.

Seaweed Wrap

If you are able to find dried wakame at your health food store that is dried in long strands you can simply soak these in spring water to reconstitute and then use the strands themselves as wraps. Wrap over the seaweed wraps with your strips or just lie quietly and they should stay in place well enough.

Moisturizing Wrap for Silky Smooth Legs

1 banana
1 ripe avocado
1/4 cup of aloe vera gel
cream or milk added to achieve desired consistency

Mix ingredients together to form a paste. Apply to legs and wrap with saran wrap or cotton strips.
Leave on  for 45 minutes and rinse.

Honey and Oatmeal Wrap

2 cups of honey
1cup oatmeal
2 TBS olive oil

Melt honey. Grind the oatmeal into a coarse powder and add it to the honey along with
the olive oil to form a paste mixture.  Apply using the basic wrap technique.
Be careful with the honey if you melt it in the microwave.  Honey can burn your skin.

Coffee Ground Cellulite Wrap

Use warm coffee grounds and rub them into the thigh area. Wrap with plastic wrap. Rinse off after 10 minutes.
You can add a little oil to the coffee grounds to make it more of a paste.  Most of it falls to the ground so have the floor protected with newspapers.  Many cellulite creams have caffeine in them.  If you make coffee every morning anyway you now have a free source of cellulite treatment. :)   The wrap is optional on this since you only leave it on for 10 minutes or so.

Herbal Massage Wrap

1 cup oil  (grapeseed, corn, canola)
1/2 cup grapefruit juice
12 drops essential oil

You may add your favorite essential oil or combination of oils. A good choice would be from one of these: tangerine, ylang ylang, lavender.   Massage mixture into skin and wrap with very warm strips.

 Anti- Cellulite Massage Oil

2 TBS almond oil
5 drops juniper berry oil
5 drops geranium oil

Add any of these complimentary oils  carrot root, grapefruit, oregano, rosemary, cypress, and/or lemongrass.  Each of these oils are said to have a beneficial effect on the skin and or circulation, geranium and juniper berry on cellulite in particular. I use a different combination of drops depending on what I have available at the time.  It is expensive to buy all these oils at once.  If you don't have any oils at all you could start off relatively inexpensively by purchasing juniper berry essential oil and mixing it with olive oil.  As your collection of oils builds you can create more complex concoctions. A basic formula is 2-10 drops of essential oil to 2 TBS of carrier oil such as almond oil, olive oil, etc.  Mix together, apply and massage.

**Do not use essential oils if you are pregnant without consulting your herbalist or doctor as some oils can stimulate uterine contractions.
